EPO is located in the back part of the property in direct visibility to the biggest historical grown garden network of Vienna‘s inner districts, surrounded by numerous gardens. Noise protection to the heavy traffic of Rennweg (estimated 75-80db) is covered by the building near the street. These two factors culminate in two main characteristics – on one hand an exceptional quiet condition for the city‘s inner disctricts and on the other hand the location offers an excellent view and connection into the directly surrounding garden and park facilties.

Thermally optimized external components minimize the energy usage, an integration of glass areas, which can be opened, make a passive usage of solar energy possible. Additional to the window airing a controlled, draft free ventilation is installed to reach an optimal air hygiene.

Furthermore a light steering shadowing for day light utulization is assigned.
The building is supplemented with a four storyed winter garden on the South. It is equipped with a shadowing in form of adjustable lamellas (horizontal in the South and the roof, vertical in the East and West).
The winter garden acts as an intern communication zone throughout all levels, furthermore it is possible to use the solar incoming of clear winter days. Above of the new entrance a pergola carrying structure (a wire mesh net) covers the newly defined forecourt to ensure necessary hold for a laminar greening (grid and greening above the entrance and vertically drawn up the facade, further horizontal at the roof and down at the southern end of the building). Besides the micro-climatic advantage this kind of greening througout the whole building communicates the insertion of the building into the context of a garden area. The two flat roofs above the ground floor on the Eastern side are intensively greened.
