Solution
Cubic Lights is situated in an area with a high density of private houses.
A single volume with hang up rooms creates a free-standing private house.
One who enters the ground floor of Cubic Lights will witness a completely open and therefore floating space. Hovering room boxes create different room heights – from 3 to 6m – throughout the building. The living room at ground floor is continuously glazed and opens towards the South to a wooden terrace which is flanked by a swimming pool. While inside the living room and looking up, the roof level is composed of three single cubes, freely floating above the exposed ground floor. Satellite-like, light flooded cubes which house the bed- and bathrooms of the owner.
The hanging boxes create the ceilings and take care of shading as well; furthermore the single rooms have possibilities to close them through shadings in order to create privacy when desired.
